(January 2009) – A Web site created and maintained by Kellen Interactive has won a prestigious award from a national health organization. Established by Kellen on behalf of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADDA), www.treatocd.org recently received an Aesculapius Award of Excellence from the Health Improvement Institute.The award honors Web sites and television and radio public service announcements that help educate the public and promote informed consumer lifestyle choices and health-care decisions.
The ADAA is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness and improving the early diagnosis, treatment, and cure of anxiety disorders through education and research. The association provides free educational information, lists of treatment professionals, support groups, self tests, clinical trials and other resources.
When the ADAA opted to create a new Web site specifically dedicated to the topic of obsessive-compulsive disorder, the organization tapped Kellen Interactive to design and manage the project. Launched in February 2008, www.treatocd.org provides information about OCD and the various treatment options, as well as advice on how to talk to a doctor or therapist about the disorder. With a user-friendly design and streamlined navigation, the site also features: a self-test that can be filled out, printed up and brought to specialists; celebrity spokesperson videos from Howie Mandel and Tony Shalholb; on-line tools for both physicians and patients; and a free OCD handbook.
The Web site was selected for the Aesculapius Award of Excellence by a panel of judges representing the health care, Web publishing and multimedia fields. Named for the ancient Greek god of healing, the inaugural Aesculapius award was given out by the Health Improvement Institute back in 1992.
“People need reliable information about lifestyle and health care choices presented in an appealing way. The Aesculapius Awards are designed to promote and encourage excellence in the communication of good information about healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and health care treatments,” said Dr. Peter G. Goldschmidt, President and Founder of the Health Improvement Institute, in a prepared statement. “This year's winners continued the very high standard of creativity and quality that we have seen since the awards began.”
