Site Re-Launch to Help Raise Awareness and Funds for Growing Heating Assistance Needs in Georgia
ATLANTA (Dec. 20, 2011) – Kellen Interactive is excited to announce the re-launch of the Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.) website, www.heatga.org. The site offers an improved user experience, with a new, cleaner, easier-to-navigate design. The site also allows users to easily donate online, offer to volunteer their time, find tips on conserving energy and how to get heating assistance. H.E.A.T. is an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that provides energy assistance statewide to low-income Georgians. The site’s redesign and launch was a pro-bono effort from Kellen Interactive, as part of Kellen’s commitment to the Atlanta community.
As the weather grows colder, most Georgians will want to turn up the heat this holiday season. Unfortunately, Georgia’s poverty rate reached its highest point since 1983 last year – which translated to 1.83 million Georgians in poverty, according to Census Bureau figures.
The nation's first statewide fuel fund, H.E.A.T. has provided energy assistance to the less fortunate for nearly 30 years, as a joint effort among concerned citizens, businesses and state government. Many of the businesses that partner with H.E.A.T. are in fact natural gas providers –and some allow their customers to make donations via their monthly bills. For many families and Georgians that meet the eligibility requirements, this program has helped tremendously.
“This was a great opportunity for Kellen to not only give to our community, but also show support for an organization that helps Georgians across the state,” said Keith Keeney, vice president of Kellen Interactive. “Our team truly enjoyed helping H.E.A.T. with this website and we plan to continue to our assistance as needed.”
“We are very excited about the site’s re-launch and we hope that through online and bill donations, we will be able to meet the growing demand for help this winter,” said Janet Joseph, executive director of H.E.A.T. “The people that ask for help are in a critical state –meaning they’ve either had their heating cut off, or are about to. Many Georgians are still out of work this year, so it is no surprise that we’re getting more calls this early in the season. Our mission continues to be preventing human suffering by providing energy assistance for Georgians in need.”
About H.E.A.T.
Established in 1983, H.E.A.T. began as a program of Atlanta Gas Light Company. With the deregulation of Georgia's natural gas industry, H.E.A.T. became a separate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization in May 2000. The organization helps address the energy needs of low-income Georgians by joining forces with concerned citizens, businesses and state and local governments. During the past 28 years, more than $20 million in energy assistance has been donated and disbursed to nearly 89,000 families.
